Alternative curriculum for KS4 learners as well as an innovative and exciting post 16 curriculum for learners at risk of becoming not in employment, education or training (NEET). Based across two sites in Leigh and Astley, Greater Manchester, we provide a unique programme of learning that can be tailored to every individual’s needs. Our offer includes:
Working alongside Wigan Council and key local partners, we have developed a unique proposition for learners that allows young people to learn construction skills and land based/horticultural skills whilst contributing to the redevelopment of an 8 acre community site that includes 3 football pitches, pond, significant green space, play area and a Surestart children’s centre.
Based in Micky Higham’s Try Fitness gym our learners undertake daily sport and outdoor activity to improve health and wellbeing. Our qualified PE teachers use sport and outdoor activity including mountain biking, table tennis, gym sessions, football, walking and many more to improve learner’s physical & mental health, teamwork, problem solving and communication skills. We offer the Level 1/2 technical award in health and fitness (V Cert) that is approved in the KS4 performance tables.
We are now taking referrals for year 11 taster sessions starting in April 2021 through to the end of the summer term. This unique and innovative programme will give young people an opportunity to try construction, land based and sport/outdoor activity across 12 weeks and successful candidates will be invited onto our year 12 full time programme in September 2021.
